Closure of the Maison de la Perle: A New Strategy for the Polynesian Pearl Industry
This measure is part of a broader policy aimed at reducing public spending and streamlining government action.
In the pearl farming sector, the restructuring of missions will be organized around new strategic priorities.
The legal protection of pearl products and the creation of certification labels will now be handled by the Directorate of Marine Resources (DRM), including product classification, which will be offered on a non-mandatory basis.
Promotional activities, both locally and internationally, will be transferred to industry professionals. Producers and dealers will organize themselves through a private entity currently being created. Eventually, this mission will be incorporated into an organization tasked with promoting all Polynesian products.
Lastly, support for commercialization will be fully entrusted to the private sector, marking a new dynamic for the industry.
Through this reorganization, the government seeks to optimize its resources while strengthening the effectiveness of its support for the pearl farming sector — a cornerstone of the Polynesian economy.
