There are no two people alike and it is in this particular ambiance that I myself like to create. It is my pleasure that each individual should find the unique piece which corresponds to him best, a precious gem, a unique treasure that will go on sharing its story. I am inspired by diverse themes borrowed from nature, from the world’s oceans, from the passing of time and I aspire to reap from them pieces of history, testimonials of the past, bits of stardust fallen on earth. I like the idea that my creations might inspire those who wear them in the same way that the explorer is overcome by the tantalizing sensation of opening for the first time in 300 years a treasure chest upon a deserted shore. My jewelry is meant to embody the encounter between man and the elements, between his desire to be nearest that which is most beautiful and at the same time, simplest. My creations are organic, poignant, sophisticated and simple, all in the image of Saint Barthelemy. Each pearl has its own character, its own form and beauty, resulting in a truly unique piece. These creations are composed of sensations, souvenirs and poetry, they are an invitation to voyage, evidence of the exception which is my island, for those who come to know her for an instant or for a lifetime, wanting nothing less than the essential and preciously taking it with them, like a treasure. |
I use in my creations, of course, Tahitian pearls, the oldest jewels known to man and the only to be produced by a living creature. My pearls are purchased directly from the source at Polynesian pearl farms and are mounted using the finest Australian leather, imported especially for this purpose. Each piece is handmade, from the intricate preparation of the leather, to the drilling of the pearls. Other materials used include veritable Pieces of Eight, 17th century pirate money, certain having spent more than 300 years at the bottom of the sea, others jaded by the salt air or simply by time, never having left the shore. I combine certain of my creations with proto-money such as bronze Celtic rounds (500 years before JC) found in Europe under ancient tumuluses or in the depths of a river explored, remnants of offerings made to the Gods. According to my harvest, you may also find white and golden pearls from Australia, mother-of-pearl and precious seashells, meteorites, gold and silver pearls, fossils more than one million years old, African pearls handcrafted by Ghana’s finest tradesmen, ancient Persian Drachmas bearing the face of a king who looks upon you through the centuries, corals and many more such treasures which I have yet to discover, which remain buried in the deep, just waiting to be uncovered, just waiting to pursue their legend. |
I was born in Paris and have always made an effort to blend my professional life with another more artistic lifestyle. As a student of theater, a calligrapher at heart and a traveler of endless curiosity, I abandoned Paris’ Place Vendome in 2002 for the chance discovery of Saint Barthelemy, a tiny island adrift in the rosary of the Caribbean isles. Necessity guides us and chance, if you are paying attention, can shape one’s destiny. It was my desire to be closer to nature, to live a simpler life where time passes more slowly, in harmony with the rhythm of the waves lapping the shore, the palms dancing in the breeze and the companionship of sun’s vibrant smile, each and every day. I set out to stay on the island for only a few months, but here I am today, ten years later, as surprised as the next guy, working for local jewelry shops, sun-kissed, with sand forever upon my feet and the cool wind in my hair. This island, of course, is made up of all of us and living upon it, in a sense, is one way of getting closer and more familiar with oneself. In my travels, I have always brought back little treasures gleaned here and there, tiny soulful bits, fabrics, historical objects, gris-gris, talismans and such, each one possessing its own story, worn by the sands of time. Tahitian pearls are indeed unique treasures. Each pearl has its own inimitable story to tell and carries within the immeasurably sweet elements, which over time, created such an infinitely beautiful jewel. |
